The actor will reprise the role of Quentin Crisp, a character he played to much acclaim in 1975.
He added: ‘It’s great for the summer actually, I don’t have to worry so much about this heat.’

Hurt has also just signed up to join the cast of the BBC’s new fantasy drama Merlin.

He will be the voice of the Great Dragon in the 13-part ‘rites of passage’ story, which begins long before Prince Arthur becomes King.

The series, which kicks off on BBC One in September, brings together a cast of acclaimed British actors including Richard Wilson as Gaius and Anthony Head as King Uther Pendragon.
