Understanding And Treating Male Hair Loss Effectively

07.04.2009 in MALE HAIR LOSS

Hair loss might be an inevitable part of your genetic make up, but baldness doesn’t have to be. The Hair Centre Treatment Programme (HCTP) can help you keep healthy hair.

There are many names for it and none of them helpful to men with thinning hair. Hair loss can often start as early as your 20s, slowly progressing in a receding hairline as you get older. But, if you understand the causes of hair loss, then you may be able to pick a restorative programme of treatments to help retain a fuller head of hair.

Male pattern baldness is the name for the most common cause of hair loss in men. It’s not the only cause, but is the reason behind 95% of men who experience hair loss.

Half of all men will typically experience thinning of hair, resulting in the receding hairline and/or balding on the top of the head that most of us associate with hair loss. You may notice the first signs of hair loss in your 20s, although male pattern baldness typically becomes more noticeable with age. If hair is left to recede over a prolonged period, the hair may be permanently lost.

Genetics may help to explain hair loss, although genealogy isn’t the only contributing factor. The hormone, dihydrotestosterone (DHT) can also lead to male pattern baldness by shortening and thinning hair.

Despite your odds of experiencing hair loss being relatively high, if you experience hair loss as a result of male pattern baldness, you can retain your hair and feel better about the way you look by joining The Hair Centre trichology-led, professional Hair Centre Treatment Programme (HCTP).

MALE HAIR LOSS

02.04.2009 in HAIR LOSS [ PHOTOS ] TREATED, MALE HAIR LOSS

Androgenetic alopecia has a characteristic pattern of hair loss; it begins with a slight recession at the front hairline and is followed by thinning on the crown of the head.  The hair above the ears and at the nape of the neck is unaffected.  The hair loss results from a complex chemical reaction when the enzyme 5-alpha-reductase converts the testosterone in the system into DHT or dihydrotestosterone.  The hair follicles are genetically predisposed to be over sensitive to the DHT and become smaller and smaller with time, leading to the eventual hair loss.

THIS PATIENT HAS USED THE FOLLOWING TREATMENTS  FOR JUST 5 MONTHS AND ACHIEVED THESE RESULTS UNDER THE SUPERVISION OF OUR TRICHOLOGIST GARY HERON

Minoxidil 5%+ Hair Growth Stimulant
Minoxidil is a vasodilator and dilates the blood capillaries responsible for blood supply to the hair follicles, thus allowing more blood to reach the hair follicles and encourage hair growth.
Directions for use: One millilitre to be massaged into the scalp gently twice a day, morning and evening, and left on for at least 8 hours.
Please note: As vasodilators are designed to dilate the capillary blood vessels the scalp may redden on the area where the stimulant is applied and may also tingle slightly for a while.

Biostim 15% Hair Regrowth Stimulant and Hair Loss Stabiliser
This stimulant contains a very effective, natural 5-alpha reductase inhibitor.  It reduces the amount of 5-alpha reductase in the scalp and thereby reduces the formation of DHT, stabilising hair loss and encouraging a healthy growth cycle.
Directions for use: One millilitre to be massaged into the scalp gently twice a day, morning and evening, and left on for at least 8 hours.

The gradual or more sudden loss of hair can be a very emotional experience for any man. The effects of hair loss can cause anxiety and depression. This is compounded by feelings of helplessness if there is no solution available.

Here is a solution:

Why Do Men Go Bald?

03.03.2009 in MALE HAIR LOSS

Male Pattern Hair Loss (MPHL) follows from a one-two punch of genetic influence (probably related to more than one gene, and not necessarily from the maternal side) and hormonal changes in adulthood. The male hormone dihydrotestosterone causes old hairs on the scalp to be replaced by progressively shorter and thinner hairs in a predictable pattern, beginning at the temples and crown of the head.

Men may find themselves crying “MPHL!” (“My Precious, Healthy Locks!”), or raising their receding hairlines skyward, asking “why?”

Well, the fact that one can be genetically predisposed to baldness suggests that losing one’s hair has (or had) some evolutionary advantage. Since mates are selected for genetic worth, a physical trait that boasts of some genetic edge is more likely to spread throughout a species.

A shiny pate may indicate a man’s advanced stage of physical and social maturity. This could encourage increased status in a social group as well as less aggressive behavior from other males, as the bald man is visibly past the threatening stage of high sexual activity, and perhaps more likely to be a nurturer to younger groups as well. This could be a selling point to women looking to mate.
