Hair Fall Can Be Controlled With Proper Diet

12.10.2010 in HAIR LOSS FACTS

Hair fall, a problem being faced by many across the globe, has grown up to a threat. Hair is made of a protein called Keratin and grows from follicles. What we see is the upper part of the hair, while the root is under the follicle. Experts say that the way we shed dry skin everyday, we also shed dead hair. Hair loss of 50 hair in a day is normal but if the number is more than this then it can be termed as the hair fall problem.

The quality of your hair, it’s growth, strength etc. depends a lot on the blood circulation, cleaning of the hair, clean scalp and also diet. Dirty scalp, leads to blocking of the follicles, which leads to infection and finally dead hair. Your hair also need nutrients to grow. If they don’t receive it, they become weak and shed. Several studies have proved that adequate amount of Protein, Iron and Vitamin are required to prevent hair loss.

Diet To Control Hair Fall –

1.Soybeans – Soybeans are a very good source of iron, zinc and vitamin E. Soybean also improves the hemoglobin content in the blood, which further ensures adequate oxygen to the body tissues. Lack of blood circulation and oxygen in the scalp due to lack of Vitamin E, is one of the major reasons of hair loss.

2.Juice And Organic Food – Citrus fruit juice and diet of organic vegetables boost hair growth and also enhances the quality of the hair. Orange juice is taken to the best source of hair growth. It contains Vitamin C, which enhances the absorption of iron.

3.Almonds – Almonds are famous for boosting memory but very few know that it is the best food for your hair. It has ample quantity of protein, iron and vitamin E, which is the exact food that your hair needs to stay healthy. We should have at least 5-8 almonds everyday.

4.Oatmeal – Oatmeal are a good source of Potassium, Phosphorus and Magnesium. Oatmeal also enhances the absorption of iron in the blood.

5.Beans – Beans are full of Vitamin B6 and Zinc, which not only checks hair loss but also ensures healthy hair and prevention from dandruff.

Intake of these five food items in your diet along with few other measures like, keeping your scalp clean, oil massage, hair packs etc, will ensure reduction in hair fall.

Bad hair day to top all others.

There are 193 species of primate, of which 192 are covered in hair – the sole exception, as the zoologist Desmond Morris observed, being ourselves, ‘The Naked Ape’. This is, of course, not strictly true, as some humans are hairier than others, but their covering is still insufficient to fill the role it serves in our primate cousins of cooling them during the day (by protecting skin against the sun’s radiant heat) and keeping them warm at night. Meanwhile, the hair that does remain on the head and face (in men) grows much more luxuriantly, causing problems of its own, requiring regular trimming and washing if it is not to become a greasy tangle.

While this pattern of hair growth in humans is a biological puzzle, there is no doubting its cultural significance as suggested by the adverse psychological consequences of its loss. This is particularly the case in those afflicted by alopecia, which can range in severity from a single coin-sized patch to involving the entire body, including the loss of eyebrows and eyelashes.

This is an autoimmune disorder where the body’s immune system attacks the growing hair follicles. The obvious treatment then would be to suppress this process with drugs such as steroids that can be directly injected into the skin (which can be painful) or applied as a cream, or preferably, a foam. But, paradoxically, the reverse approach of stimulating the immune system by applying a chemical (DPCP) that induces chronic eczema of the scalp seems, if anything, to be even more effective.

Meanwhile, more curiously, this is one of the few conditions where there is unequivocal evidence of the benefits of aromatherapy with a mix of the essential oils thyme, rosemary, lavender and cedarwood.

Recession is causing more men to go bald

09.08.2010 in HAIR LOSS FACTS, TRICHOLOGIST

Millions of men are still suffering the after effects of the recession – in the form of hair loss, it has been revealed.

The turmoil and anxiety of the biggest economic slowdown in modern history has left a large percentage of the male population with less hair than they had three years ago.

The phenomenon emerged in the wake of pictures showing premier David Cameron with a newly-developed barren patch on his crown less than three months after he secured power.

And now it’s claimed there’s been an 89 percent jump in the number of men seeking treatment for hair loss in the UK since the start of the recession.

So what do you think of the financially-challenged also being follicly-challenged. Is it hair-larious… or just a load of old bald-erdash?
Hair loss is caused by stress which can cause strands to fall out three times more quickly than usual, causing pigment cells to wear out more rapidly.

Experts believe the stress of modern life is on average turning us grey five years earlier than previous generations.

A spokesman for LA Science, which commissioned the study, said: “There are two types of stress which cause our men to lose their hair.

“The more common type is called telogen effluvium. With this less severe type of hair loss, the hair stops growing and lies dormant, the other type of stress-induced hair loss is known as alopecia areata, and involves a white blood cell attack on the hair follicles

“With this type of hair loss, the hair also falls out within weeks usually, but can involve the entire scalp and even body hair.”

“Stress is a common cause of men losing their hair. A combination of the stressful recession and professionals fiercely fighting for their careers has most definitely contributed to the sudden boom in premature balding.”

Thyroid Gland Triggers Post-Delivery Hair Loss

26.05.2010 in HAIR LOSS FACTS, HAIR LOSS HEALTH NEWS

Healthcare researchers have found that the cause behind women suffering hair loss after the delivery of their children is the presence of a tiny butterfly-shaped gland at the base of the throat. This gland is responsible for the majority of metabolism in the body.

Thyroid-Gland

When this gland gets twisted, it gives way to a number of problems. In case of severe hair fall post-delivery, hyperthyroidism occurs within the body of a female, which is resultant of excessive pressure imposed on the glands in producing the hormones, which in turn speeds up the metabolism.

According to Dr. Roland Chieng, a consultant at Roland Chieng Fertility and Women Care, hyperthyroidism is caused by Graves’ disease in 95% of the women. The disease weakens the defence system of the body. The defence system attacks the thyroid, forcing it to secrete excessive hormones.

These conditions lead to complications, including heart attacks.

On the other end of band of thyroid dysfunction lies hypothyroidism, which takes place when the thyroid doesn’t secrete sufficient hormones and a sloth hits the metabolism.

Dr. Chia Su-Ynn, a consultant endocrinologist and physician at The Endocrine Clinic, said that there is a lack of awareness on the types of thyroid disorders.

“The symptoms may be mistaken for a lot of other conditions like obesity, depression, anxiety or other stress-related symptoms,” she said.

Can certain hairstyles or treatments cause hair loss?

11.03.2010 in HAIR LOSS FACTS

Traction

Yes. If you wear pigtails or cornrows or use tight hair rollers, the pull on your hair can cause a type of hair loss called traction alopecia . If the pulling is stopped before scarring of the scalp develops, your hair will grow back normally. However, scarring can cause permanent hair loss. Hot oil hair treatments or chemicals used in permanents (also called “perms”) may cause inflammation (swelling) of the hair follicle, which can result in scarring and hair loss.
