FEMALE HAIR LOSS (BLACK HAIR): RESULTS

08.08.2008 in BLACK AFRO-CARIBBEAN HAIR LOSS, HAIR LOSS [ PHOTOS ] TREATED

This Patient first came to us in September 2006. She was suffering from severe Traction Alopecia and Chemical Trauma. As you can see she was virtually bald. The hair you see in the first photograph is extensions in plaits. Apart from the extensions she literally has no hair. It has taken just 20 months to achieve these fantastic results, which I know the Patient is delighted with, but more importantly we have re-educated her into how to look after and maintain her hair. Black hair can be twice washed a week and steamed on a weekly basis without drying the hair out and causing breakage. This is just part of her new regime and life style change around her intensive treatment program provided by her Westminster Trichologist.

SEPTEMBER 2006 TO MAY 2008

We prescribed the following treatments:

Psoriaderm  Scalp Treatment:
This lotion contains powerful keratolytic (scale-removing) agents to soften and remove compacted scaling and sebum from the hair and scalp.  Anti-pruritic agents reduce the irritation and erythema (redness), while antiseptic agents prevent secondary infection.  This lotion also contains additional cooling and emollient properties.

Vitastim 15% Hair Regrowth Stimulant and Hair Loss Stabiliser:
This stimulant is recommended to help stabilise hair loss and strengthen existing hair.  It is a natural hop-based solution that works as a vasodilator to increase blood circulation in the scalp and so enable healthy hair growth.  It also contains a multi-vitamin complex to help catalyse the process of conversion of amino acids into keratin hair cells and accelerate growth and diameter of the hair from the dermal papilla.

Follicle Builder 15% Hair Strengthener:
This stimulant is formulated to increase cell metabolism and nutrient concentration at the hair root to increase hair cell production.  It also has the effect of extending the hair growth cycle, improving overall hair density.

Chemical Trauma and Traction Alopecia Treated Successfully: See Our Results

26.02.2008 in BLACK AFRO-CARIBBEAN HAIR LOSS, HAIR LOSS [ PHOTOS ] TREATED

Traction alopecia is hair loss caused by constant tension on the hair, such as that created by an over-tight ponytail, plaiting or through using too tight rollers to style the hair.  The action of pulling on the hair over a long period of time results in the gradual shrinking of the hair follicle and so the hairs produced become finer and finer and permanently damaged if not treated.

Chemical trauma can be caused to the hair by bleaching, relaxing, perming or even dying the hair.  The chemicals involved in these processes can damage the protein structure of the hair, making it brittle and often causing hair loss.  In your case, this can seen mainly at the frontal area.  As well as damaging the hair, these chemicals are also not good for the scalp and can irritate it.

Chemicals and Treatments can cause severe Hair Loss.

16.10.2007 in BLACK AFRO-CARIBBEAN HAIR LOSS

Chemical trauma through over processing the hair with either relaxers or colours can cause excessive hair loss and in some cases permanent damaging and scarring. The early signs are a change in hair texture, split ends and fragile hair always breaking. These problems can easily escalate in to bigger and more and more costly long term problems if ignored.

Year in and year out both men and women spend more and more money on enhancing their appearance as the youthful look of today’s society is a number one demand. We buy products by the dozen and spend millions as a nation on products and processes to make our hair look stunning and at its very best.

But the down side is that we more often than not we self inflict damage on our already beautiful hair all by ourselves with the constant over use and misuse of colours, relaxers, straightners and products. These invariably do more damage in the long term rather than just leaving your hair alone.

Thinning hair through the lack of nutrients in your diet and the stress of modern society are right up there as the number one enemy of a healthy head of hair today, along with aggressive chemicals and the constant use of straightners.

We all lose hair continuously and that is normal as the hair has a natural replacement cycle. It is when it is excessive that we should seek help and advice immediately.
